Creation of "The Final Stand"
Keith Parkinson is one of the most respected names in fantasy art. His work has appeared in numerous Dungeons & Dragons products, on the covers of best-selling novels, and within the computer gaming industry. Keith recently teamed up with Blizzard to produce a limited edition signed and numbered lithograph for the Diablo Series titled "The Final Stand." We caught up with him at his San Diego residence recently to talk about art, his advice for aspiring artists, and the creation of "The Final Stand":
BI: Why did you choose to focus your talents within the fantasy genre?
KP: I realize this may date me a bit, but I grew up during the heyday of the NASA space program. I was totally enthralled by the thought of man going to the moon. I had posters of spaceships all over my bedroom walls. I started reading sci-fi books when I ran out of stories about the astronauts.
I read everything I could find, from Asimov to Zelazny. I drew spaceships and moon bases, ground vehicles, space suits...and on and on. One day a friend of mine started bugging me to read this book he had found. It wasn't sci-fi, so I wasn't all that interested. He was totally into it and persisted. He told me I'd love it. It was about some little people, hobbits or something
